Dealing with Stress Amidst Pandemic

The corona crisis has left teachers stressed more than ever. They have to adapt to new modes of the teaching-learning process along with dealing with the stress that comes with home isolation.

Isolation and lack of interaction with the outside world have created a situation where teachers are finding it difficult to find work-life balance.

To help teachers maintain a healthy work-life balance, we have covered a few tips to manage stress:

Exercise in the Morning

After getting up in the morning, you can exercise to freshen up the mind. Exercise gives a fresh start to your brain and keeps it focused throughout the day. It also reduces the level of stress hormones in the body such as adrenaline and releases chemicals such as endorphins that body’s natural mood elevators.

Take a Break from Work

Teachers have long working days which can exhaust them. Taking a break after working and doing what you like to do would relax you. You can also spend some time with your family.

Talk to People Around

In a time when social isolation has become the new normal, teachers miss their working environment. During this time of social isolation, all family members should ensure that there is no one feeling lonely in the absence of normal situations. All the family members can organise little fun activities in the evening to cheer up the family environment.

Turn to Hobbies

You can read a book or do what you like apart from being engaged with a digital gadget. Doing what we like to do help us to connect with the self better and reduces our stress level.

Have a Schedule

When we are at home all day long for months, it is common to feel as if we have a lot of time in a day to finish our work. However, you need to have a schedule to manage your time effectively. The sense that you’ve all day at your disposal, might force you to procrastinate your work. If you procrastinate, you might panic. To prevent from happening, you should have a schedule and follow it rigorously.

Stay Positive

It is beyond hard to try to stay positive when people are dying around the world and there is chaos everywhere and the future seems dark and bleak. But you need to remember that like all bad situation, this too shall end. Try to think positively for your life and the life of your dear ones. If you focus only on the negative things, life will become tough for you and you will steer towards depression.

In a nutshell, to maintain the stress level teachers should balance their digital and physical activities and keep a family connection alive. The above-mentioned steps can help teachers manage the stress they are facing due to the pandemic, home confinement and work pressure.
